Terry started his passion for photography when he was given a Kodak Box Brownie for his 11th Birthday, and since that day a camera has been a natural extension for his creative eye. For many years, beyond his 16th birthday, he was shooting weddings, when film was the only media, crafting his skills in a time when you needed to get it right in camera. No “chimping” in those days.
At the age of 21 he left a well paid career in publishing to study photography full time, during which time he won a Royal Society of Arts Bursary award for his submission of an advertising portfolio. Following his training he attained a position running a commercial photographic studio in Northern Ireland where he further developed his commercial skills and at the same time winning numerous awards for advertising submissions.
Throughout Terry’s career he has developed his ability as an extremely successful wedding photographer further improving on his people skills and developing his communication skills at all levels.
Terry formed Photography Workshops in 2008, with the express purpose of passing on his knowledge and expertise to those with a receptive ear. Over the past years PW has developed into a well-respected training facility with Terry being asked to speak at numerous seminars including Focus on Imaging and the SWPP convention as well as teaching for the Royal Photographic Society where he attained an Associate Distinction. Terry now runs Photography Workshops in conjunction with Andy, both with extensive experience in running Photography Courses
Andy Cubin MBE ASIFGP
Andy Cubin, originally from Lerwick, on the Shetland Islands, first picked up a camera at the age of nine. His father, a keen amateur photographer, taught him the basics and, along with a birthday gift of a Canon AE1, infused a passion for photography that has remained resolute for nearly 40 years.
Andy joined the Royal Air Force as a fast jet pilot at the age of 18 and had a distinguished career flying the Jaguar, including active service in the Gulf and Bosnia. He was also a member of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - The Red Arrows.
During his RAF flying, Andy became a Flying Instructor teaching ab-initio fast jets pilots on both the Hawk and Jaguar aircraft and later became an instructor of instructors. He was awarded an MBE in the 1997 New Year's Honours List for military service.
Now an airline Captain, Andy only puts his cameras down whilst he is flying. He has a commercial photography company, a wedding photography company and is a teacher with photographyworkshops, running photography courses based in Wiltshire.
With Andy’s background in training and teaching at degree level, combined with his love and passion for photography, not to mention his Distinction at Associate level, he is more than eminently qualified. With 22 years teaching experience, he is happiest imparting his wealth of knowledge to those that want to listen.
