On Friday 20th April 2012, 4 delegates joined Photography Workshops' DSLR Supercharger Course at the Mayfield Hotel in Crudwell, Wiltshire.
Set in this beautiful Cotswold village, the group: Alan L, Alan R, Simon and Tad sat down at 9.30 am to a gentle introduction by course tutor Andy Cubin with fellow tutor Terry Hewlett in attendance.
The DSLR Supercharger course was set up by Andy and Terry aimed at competent photographers aiming to raise their photographic abilities - indeed, the mission statement on Page 1 of their multi-media presentation states:
"The aim of this course is to provide the delegate with sufficient core and advanced skills to significantly raise their level of photographic competence"
In order to encourage the interaction of the delegates, each was asked to introduce themselves and to describe their own level and aspirations. Their experience level alongside their equipment was sufficiently varied and the tutors' first task was to bring all the delegates up to an even starting point.
There followed a lively lesson on Focus and Depth of Field and it became very quickly apparent that the delegates, whilst not being quite up to speed with definitions, certainly had a good understanding of the 2 terms.
The rest of the morning had the delegates enjoying practical shooting with Maggie Lou using the newly-learned theories and strangely, during lunch, everyone tried to sit next to her!
The afternoon dealt with more advanced study in subjects like Creative Cropping, Separation with Light, Positive and Negative Space and Colour Balancing Light. The delegates were encouraged by the 2 roving tutors to employ these techniques whilst Maggie Lou modelled superbly and tirelessly.
in too short a time, with cards full, shutter fingers blistered and batteries drained, the delegates finished the day looking at post-production and presentation of images. Then finally, and as a big chunk of icing on the cake, Photography Workshops were delighted to offer the delegates discount vouchers on printing products supplied by Colorworld as part of a new business collaboration between the 2 companies.
